Civil Engineering by Earth Works
TSK4 is a 300,000 SF expansion to an existing heavy manufacturing facility located in Bardstown, KY. The scope encompassed civil design, mass grading, storm and sewer systems, electrical and fire infrastructure, parking expansion, and structural excavations.
Earth Works provided overall civil design in partnership with local engineers, collaborating with the owner and construction manager. The team developed solutions that minimized the impact and cost of site development by carefully balancing materials and implementing efficient stormwater management solutions.
Overcoming Obstacles
Project Challenges
Material Sequencing
Originally pits were to be constructed first for fill material. Earth Works adjusted the phasing strategy to generate enough material to get the site to subgrade before the pits were released for construction.
Vibration Sensitivity
Rock removal presented challenges because the manufacturing equipment that was in operation was highly sensitive to vibrations. The team developed mitigation strategies using mechanical removal methods while maintaining equipment tolerance levels.
